We took the convenient tram D, which stops around the corner.
The Maria-Theresien-Platz itself is already magnificent, but this building is very impressive, not only on the outside..
All the lockers were occupied, but there is also a free cloakroom, where we were helped swiftly.
We opted to view a small selection of paintings only. They were most impressive.
One of the good things in this museum is that every room had big, comfortable couches to have a rest and take in the beauty of the paintings.
The museum shop is wonderful. We bought a nice small painting by Bernardo Bellotto: Vienna viewed from the Belvedere Palace at a reasonable price.

Our visit to the Kunsthistorisches Museum was an absolute highlight of our trip to Vienna. From the moment we stepped inside, we were struck by the sheer grandeur and beauty of the building itself—every room is a masterpiece in its own right, perfectly complementing the incredible collection it houses.
The museum’s collection is truly world-class, featuring masterpieces from artists such as Rembrandt, Vermeer, and Raphael, as well as an astonishing collection of Bruegel paintings—the largest in the world. Every gallery offers something breathtaking, from stunning Renaissance and Baroque works to fascinating ancient artifacts. The Egyptian and Greek exhibits were equally impressive, showcasing history in a way that is both immersive and educational.
Beyond the art, the atmosphere and layout of the museum made it a pleasure to explore. The displays are thoughtfully curated, and despite the museum’s vast size, everything felt accessible and well-organized.
If you’re visiting Vienna, the Kunsthistorisches Museum is an absolute must-see. Whether you’re an art enthusiast or simply appreciate history and culture, this museum offers an unparalleled experience. We left feeling truly inspired and can’t wait to return!

Incredible museum. Saw some pieces I studied in art history and it was very surreal to see them in person. Ticket was very easy to use. Great experience!

It is one of the top attractions in Vienna and for a good reason. The building alone is a must see, with its amazing interior, decorated with marbles, gold and paintings. The building took some years to be built and ten more for the inside! The collection is also amazing with works from Rubens, Velasquez, Klimt, Van Gogh, Caravaggio, Bruegel. Van Eyck, Van Dyck, Rembrandt, Cranach and Vermeer. Their collection is comparable to Prado's in Madrid but the building is much much more impressive

Worked well, but as others have noted, you have to take the voucher you receive from Viator to the ticket office in front of the museum to get the actual tickets.

I Highly recommend if you are in Vienna not to miss a visit to this museum. A great floor plan and so well curated. We especially enjoyed the Ancient wing of the museum, and the Renaissance rooms. We were impressed by offerings and the amount of high quality works on display. Great care and thought was taken into consideration with how the works would be displayed and it shows! We were thoroughly impressed.

Breakfast is delicious in the beautiful cafe. Only served at the weekends but worth it ( both food and surroundings great).
