My favourite museum by far and that's saying a lot! I work in museums so expect a lot of fun and value.
Loads for kids but also adults to explore and see

It's an interesting place to spend an hour or two. It's a self-guided tour over a few floors. The free tasting and demonstration were appreciated and it was interesting to see how modern equipment has revolutionised the trade.

We did not pre-book our tickets for the Choco Story but the wait on a very wet weekend in early January was not long. They offer pre-booking and package deals if you are also planning on visiting some of the other museums in Bruges. They looked like good value, but wouldn't have worked for us with the short amount of time we were in town.
The Choco Story is a self guided tour which takes approximately 90 minutes; there are some fixed information boards around the museum but most information comes from the handheld audio guides that you swipe at various points around the exhibits. Language-wise you can choose Dutch, English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese and Russian. In English, and I imagine at least Dutch and French too, they had an adult and a child audio version which works well for families.
The range of exhibits was interesting, focussing on the history of chocolate, both worldwide and in Belgium. There are interactive games in some of the rooms, and a silly photo spot at the end which our daughter thought was great fun. We all enjoyed the self-serve samples at the end, and the demonstration was interesting too.
Overall, an excellent way to spend a couple of hours on a rainy day and a very well thought out museum that caters well to a linguistically diverse audience. We had a great time.

Family of 5 with 3 kids14,12,10 bought tickets on the spot was relatively quiet. Really enjoyed the museum and kids were interested throughout. Nice blend of media to interact with and follows the story of chocolate to present day. Ending up with a demo of making pralines.
Was much nicer and more engaging than I was expecting we stayed for about 2 hours in total.
Well worth a little visit in our opinion

This is THE place if you want to learn about chocolate. If you don’t want to learn about chocolate, then don’t come here. There is tons of information all presented in creative ways and the audio tour (that comes free with the museum ticket) was awesome! I’m not sure about all the less than 5 star reviews, this place was amazing and I’m so glad we went! Far better than I expected!

Great, delicious experience. To be clear, we didn’t do a museum or history tour. We had a private chocolate making experience. We were welcomed by Laurens, who led us to a kitchen and had us wash up and don aprons. After that, he walked us through the technique of hand-piping our own chocolates. There were three vats or fountains of dark, milk, and white chocolate where the four of us could try our hand at making as many chocolate designs as we could carry. Laurens showed us artful techniques, but we were so enthralled with the chocolate that I ended up making a bunch of shapeless blobs so I could hide them from my family. I was amazed at how delicious the milk chocolate was. Laurens was friendly and helpful, and seemed passionate about his work and eager to share it with others.
