6 breakfasts, 5 dinners - Continental breakfasts are served and usually consist of breads, jams, cheese, occasionally eggs and meats, coffee, tea and juices. Dinner will consist of 2 to 3 courses which include regional specialties

6 nights accommodation is included: 5 nights on a twin share basis in a combination of small family run hotels, B&Bs and gites/guesthouses, some nights with private facilities and some with share facilities, and 1 night in a gite-hostel in a small dormitory with shared facilities. Required to bring a sleep sheet. Single rooms are available on three nights only (days 1,4 & 6), other nights are in small multishare dormitories (a supplement applies for single travellers).
During the trip you will be accommodated in a combination of small family run hotels, B&Bs and gites/guesthouses. The hotels and some guesthouses have private facilities, at times there are share facilities. At Roquefixade it is a gite-hostel and you will stay in a small dormitory with shared facilities. Sheet and sleeping bag provided. Single rooms are available on three nights only (days 1,4 and 6), other nights are in small dormitories. The accommodation has been specially chosen for the location, character and fabulous cuisine typical of the region.

Luggage transfer - limited to one bag weighing a maximum of 20kg per person. Any excess luggage should be stored at your pre-tour hotel, or we can arrange for its transfer from Perpignan to Foix - supplement applies (note you will not have access to this luggage during the trip).

Your journey begins in the vibrant city of Perpignan, where you'll be transferred to Grau de Maury. Here, you'll explore the well-preserved Château de Quéribus, a border castle offering stunning views of the Mediterranean and the Pyrenees. After soaking in the history, embark on a hike through an oak forest to the hilltop village of Cucugnac, home to a restored windmill that supplies flour to the local bakery. Your day concludes in the charming village of Duilhac-sous-Peyrepertuse.

Day two begins with a steep climb to the magnificent Château Peyrepertuse, a sprawling ruin that offers a unique perspective on the nearby Château de Quéribus. Descend through the soft-leaved scrubland to the spectacular Galamus gorges, home to a subterranean hermitage and inviting riverside pools. After a refreshing walk through the gorge, you'll be transferred to the picturesque hamlet of Camps-sur-l'Agly, nestled below the Pic de Bugarach.

Day three takes you through the Corbieres ridges, offering stunning views of the Pyrenees. A challenging descent brings you to the village of Caudies de Fenouilledes, before a final steep ascent to the castle at Puilaurens. Here, you can explore on your own or opt for a guided tour to learn about Catharism. After your castle visit, you'll be transferred to the old hat-making town of Quillan for an overnight stay.

Day four takes you from Quillan through farmland, ascending the Col de Brénac and through the village of Brénac, birthplace of 14th-century religious figure Petrus Amelius. After a second pass, you'll arrive at the village of Nébias, which sits on the Atlantic-Mediterranean Drainage divide. From here, you have the option to extend your walk along a nature trail called the 'Labyrinthe Vert.' The day concludes with a visit to Puivert Castle, known as the Troubadour castle, where 12th-century poet-musicians once sang to the villagers. You'll stay overnight in the charming village of Puivert.

After breakfast, you'll be transferred to Montségur, a village originally built for those constructing the castle. Here, you can visit the castle, which served as the last stronghold of the Cathars, and explore the remains of the Cathar dwellings. The walk continues into the picturesque village of Montferrier before ascending through the Mondini forest and traversing to the charming village of Roquefixade via a scenic ridge.

Day six begins with a beautiful ridge hike to Château de Roquefixade, an important Cathar refuge. From there, continue to the beautiful town of Foix, home to the best-preserved Château on the route due to its continuous occupation from Cathar times. The castle was once owned by the Counts of Foix, who eventually renounced their Cathar faith and submitted to the French Crown.
