Begin your journey in the charming town of Treuchtlingen, nestled in the heart of the Altmühltal Nature Park. Spend your first day unwinding from your travels at the renowned Altmühl-Thermal Spa. Enjoy the therapeutic waters and serene environment of the spa before retiring to your hotel, Stadthof (or similar), for a restful night.
Day 2 – Day 2: Treuchtlingen to Pappenheim

Embark on a scenic journey from Treuchtlingen to the medieval town of Pappenheim. Along the way, marvel at the stunning views of the Altmühl River from the Devil’s Pulpit and the Hollerstein viewpoint. As you approach Pappenheim, the impressive castle, once the seat of the Reichserbmarschälle-marshals, greets you. Rest for the night at the Sonne Hotel (or similar).

Today, traverse a high-altitude path to Solnhofen, known for its limestone slabs and ancient fossils. Capture the stunning Twelve Apostles, a nature monument of steep limestone rocks, before heading to Dollnstein in the primeval Danube valley. Rest for the night at Gasthof zum Kirchenschmied (or similar).

Pass the Geo-monument Burgsteinfelsen and continue through forests and juniper heaths to Eichstätt. This Diocesan town, with Willibalds castle towering over it, is a complete Baroque work of art with prestigious buildings and dreamy little alleyways. Today, enjoy a scenic walk to the Buchenhüller mammoth cave. Traverse beautiful alpine paths above Altmühl and enjoy fantastic views of the valley and the rock faces. Walk through the Gugoldinger Wacholderheide, a fantastic nature protection area, and past the Arnsberger Leite and the Limes watch tower to Kipfenberg. Rest for the night at Zur Post (or similar).

Start your day with stunning views of the beautiful Anlauter valley. Reach Kinding with its impressive fortified church and cosy inns. Enjoy magnificent views into the Altmühl valley and onto bizarre rock formations from the panorama path. After a scenic outpost at the Main-Danube canal, descend steeply to Beilngries. Rest for the night at Krone (or similar).

Travel via the Arzberg mountain plateau into the 'Seven Valley Town' of Dietfurt, where water plays a major role. Enjoy the view onto Eggersberg palace, past rock formations and along the Altmühltal-boardwalk into the pretty village of Gundlfing. From the 'Devil’s Rock', head into the 3-castle town of Riedenburg. Rest for the night at Zur Post (or similar).

Today, your path takes you up to Prunn castle. Pass the blue glittering karst spring 'Blautopf' and continue along the Main-Danube Canal. Enjoy a grandiose view into the distance. Back in the valley, walk along the Jura rock to the 'Celt’s Wall', which leads you back to the Danube. The view down to the mighty Danube crevasse is awe-inspiring. The day ends with a boat ride through the Danube crevasse to Kelheim. Rest for the night at Dormero (or similar).
