7 Days Northern Lights Secrets - Westfjords

Upon your arrival at Keflavik airport, a Flybus shuttle bus will transport you to your accommodation in Reykjavik. Depending on your arrival time, you may have the opportunity to explore the capital city at your leisure. Your overnight stay will be at Fosshótel Barón or a similar establishment.

Meet our tour guide early in the morning and set off on a journey to the west. Our first stop will be at Grábrók, a 3,400-year-old volcanic crater offering panoramic views of the entire valley. After a lunch break in the coastal town of Búðardalur, we'll travel along the fjords of Ísafjarðardjúp, where you might spot a whale if you're lucky. We'll then visit Litlibær, a historic turf house turned into a museum and café. Our final destination for the day is Ísafjörður, the largest town in the Westfjords, where we'll spend the next three nights. After dark, we'll go on a hunt for the Northern Lights. Start the day with a visit to the stunning Dynjandi waterfall, one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland. We'll then continue along the coastline and fjords to the captivating pier of Önundarfjörður. After a refreshing stroll, we'll head to Tjöruhúsið, a quaint family-owned restaurant. In the afternoon, we'll explore the charming town of Ísafjörður, known for its colorful houses, cobblestone streets, and vibrant cultural scene. As the day ends, we'll venture out once again in search of the mesmerizing Northern Lights. Overnight at Hótel Ísafjörður or similar. Breakfast and lunch are included.

We'll begin the day at the Ósvör Maritime Museum, where we'll learn about the history of rowboat fishing in Iceland. Next, we'll visit the village of Flateyri, home to Gamla bókabúðin, a charming bookstore that has been in operation since 1914. We'll also learn about the history of Flateyri and the devastating avalanche of 1995. In the evening, we'll once again venture out in search of the magical Northern Lights. Today, we'll travel to the picturesque village of Hólmavík, where we'll visit the Museum of Icelandic Sorcery and Witchcraft. Here, you'll learn about the fascinating history and folklore surrounding witchcraft and sorcery in Iceland. After a day of intriguing discoveries, we'll head to the serene Vogur Country Lodge in West Iceland, where we'll spend the night. This location is perfect for hunting the Northern Lights, so don't go to bed too early! Overnight at Vogur Country Lodge or similar. Breakfast and lunch are included.

As our week of adventures comes to a close, we'll head towards the town of Borgarnes, where we'll visit the Settlement Center. Here, you'll learn about the early human settlement in Iceland. We'll then continue to Reykjavik, where we'll explore the city's landmarks such as the Hallgrímskirkja church, the University campus, and the charming harbour with its colourful fishing vessels and the spectacular Harpan concert hall. We'll end the day with a tasting of the famous fermented shark and a toast to our unforgettable journey with a drink of Brennivín. Overnight at Fosshótel Barón or similar. Breakfast and lunch are included.

On the final day of our tour, a Flybus shuttle will transport you from your accommodation in Reykjavik to Keflavik airport for your departure. Breakfast is included.
