Amazing!

We had a fantastic tour today. Our guide was friendly and very knowledgable. His family has been in the area for centuries. Besides the history he had lots of folklore stories. He kept us fully engaged. Would definitely recommend.

Amazing!

Excellent and knowledgeable guide describing the known and speculated history of the manmade caves in the area. Well-lit as you go deep inside the caves. Guide stays as long as you want for questions and discussion.

Delicious food and beverages available on a converted American school bus in the car park.

Don't miss this stop!

Amazing!

Ideally situated directly on Route 1 is this gem of a tour. Stefan is fun to learn from, knowledgeable, dry and wry. A glimpse from ancient to modern uses of these highly functional and unique spaces made by humans to thrive on this isolated and awe-striking environment. Leave no trace inside but make your mark at the welcome hut.

Amazing!

Well worth the drive out from Rekyavik. Even better if you're driving the golden circle and book this just before you head out to the first stop. Bundle up because it's super chilly out at this site.

Amazing!

It's an amazing and interesting place! Our guide, Stefan was very knowledgeable and funny! It was a last-minute decision we made to go to the caves of Hella, after we got stood up at at stable in Hella but we don't regret it! If you're in the neighbourhood and you have the time, go there!

Amazing!

Booked (rainy) day of, with a group of 3. Plenty of parking. The lady, who checked us in, was so polite and welcoming; she offered us a taste of Iceland. Our guide, Stefán, was friendly and funny! Our best informative tour guide and stand-up comedy show in one. Caveat: an older lady in our group left early... She wasn't Viking enough to appreciate the historical wonders of Hella. She was our offering to the elves. Highly recommend this activity to support local, family owned businesses. PS Stefán, where are the bodies of our Celtic brethren?!

Amazing!

This was a really fun tour—our guide provided a ton of information about the caves, how they tie into the history of not only Iceland but also Ireland, and more. We were really glad we stopped, and definitely recommend it! Just be sure to dress warm, as the caves are quite cool.

Amazing!

Check in was easy!

The guide was absolutely amazing at story telling, building intrigue, and explaining what is known/not known of the history. The guide was also amazingly funny which really grabbed our attention. Since the tour was only estimated to be 1 hour we originally didn’t think much of it, but we learned so much!! We even stayed after the tour to ask the guide what it was like growing up in Hella and other Iceland-culture questions!

What a lovely experience!

Amazing!

As someone who has spent over 30 years traveling to some of the most captivating corners of the globe, I can confidently say that the Caves of Hella in Iceland stand out as one of the most mysterious and breathtaking places I’ve ever visited.

The moment you approach these ancient man-made caves, a profound sense of wonder envelops you. Carved into volcanic rock, their origins remain shrouded in mystery, with theories ranging from Viking settlers to monks predating Iceland's Norse history. This enigma adds an almost mythical quality to the experience, sparking your imagination at every step.

Inside, the caves exude an atmosphere of timelessness. The interplay of light and shadow across the rough-hewn walls, combined with the whispers of history they seem to echo, makes exploring them an unforgettable journey. Some sections feel as though you’ve stepped into a natural cathedral, while others evoke the raw beauty of Iceland’s untamed wilderness.

The guides here are passionate and deeply knowledgeable, offering fascinating insights into the caves' potential origins and their role in local folklore. Their storytelling enhances the visit, connecting you to the spirit of the land and its people.

I’ve visited countless wonders across continents, but few have left me with the same sense of awe and curiosity as the Caves of Hella. If you’re in Iceland, this is an absolute must-visit. It’s a place where history, nature, and mystery converge to create an experience that will stay with you long after you leave.
