Northern Lights Exploration - 8 days

Welcome to Iceland and the beginning of your Northern Lights adventure! Upon arrival, you'll be transferred to your accommodation by Flybus shuttle. The rest of the day is yours to explore Reykjavik at your leisure.

Start your day with a guided tour of Reykjavik's highlights before heading west to Borgarfjorour. Stop in Borgarnes to explore the Settlement Center and learn about Iceland's early history. Continue to Borgarfjorour Valley, known for its historical significance. Climb the Grabrok volcano crater and warm up at Deildartunguhver, Europe's most powerful hot spring. Visit Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls before settling in Borgarnes for the night. Enjoy a lecture on the Northern Lights and search for them in the garden after dinner.

Explore the stunning Snaefellsnes Peninsula, known for its rugged mountain chain. Visit the fishing village of Grundarfjorour and see the iconic Kirkjufell mountain. Continue to Arnarstapi and Hellnar before descending into Vatnshellir Cave. Learn photography tips for capturing the Northern Lights and relax in the hotel's outdoor hot tubs while awaiting the auroras.

Journey along the scenic shores of Hvalfjörður fjord, stopping at an Icelandic wool outlet store. Continue to Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and then to the Geysir geothermal fields. Witness the active Strokkur geyser and taste local delicacies at the restaurant. Visit Gullfoss waterfall before learning about Icelandic horses and visiting a geothermal greenhouse. Arrive at your accommodation in South Iceland.

Travel along the South coast, starting with a visit to the Lava & Volcano Exhibition Centre. Explore one of Iceland's finest folk museums and see the impressive Skógafoss waterfall. Stroll along the black lava beach and bird cliffs at Reynisfjara beach. Spend the next two nights near Kirkjubæjarklaustur in the Vatnajökull National Park region, perfect for Northern Lights viewing.

Today is dedicated to glaciers, ice, and icebergs. Visit the Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon and watch for seals in the Arctic waters. Walk along the black sandy beach with stranded icebergs. Visit the tiny turf church in Hof and explore Vatnajökull National Park, home to Europe's largest glacier. Optionally, take an Ice Cave tour. End the day with a movie presentation about the Northern Lights and hopefully see them in the night sky.

Depart Kirkjubæjarklaustur and cross the Eldhraun lava field to the village of Vik. Stroll on the black lava beach and bird cliffs at Reynisfjara beach. Visit the high but narrow Seljalandsfoss waterfall, where you can take a trail behind the falling water. End the day with a relaxing soak in the famous Blue Lagoon before returning to Reykjavik.

Your Northern Lights Icelandic adventure concludes today with a FlyBus transfer to Keflavik Airport. Safe travels!
