Step into the heart of Iceland’s volcanic landscape as you journey deep inside Raufarhólshellir, one of the country’s largest and most fascinating lava tubes. This guided adventure takes you off the beaten path to explore a world shaped by ancient lava flows over 5,000 years ago.
Your expert caving guide leads a small group through the cave’s challenging terrain, navigating boulders and uneven surfaces with the help of headlamps and helmets provided for your safety. The tour covers over 1.3 kilometers underground, revealing vibrant colors and incredible rock formations along the way.
At the end of the tunnel, marvel at the rare and breathtaking lava falls, a natural wonder found in only a handful of places worldwide. The tour lasts approximately three hours and is suitable for adventurous travelers with good fitness and balance, ages 12 and up.
Tours are conducted in English and operate near Hveragerdi, with bathrooms available at the meeting point before and after the experience. Please note that food, drinks, gratuities, and hotel transfers are not included, and sturdy hiking shoes with ankle support are required.
