Step into a world of ice and wonder on this guided group hike across the stunning Falljökull glacier in Skaftafell, Iceland. Led by a certified glacier expert, you'll explore one of the most breathtaking outlets of the mighty Vatnajökull, Europe's largest glacier, and witness dramatic landscapes shaped by centuries of ice movement.
Your adventure begins at the Skaftafell meeting point, where your guide outfits you with all the essential glacier gear, including crampons, a helmet, harness, and ice axe. After a short ride on the "Tröll Bus" and a brief walk, you'll reach the glacier's edge, ready to embark on your icy journey.
Before setting foot on the glacier, your guide will demonstrate how to use your equipment safely and teach you the best techniques for walking on the ice. As you hike, you'll marvel at crevasses, moulins, glacier mice, and towering ice formations, all while learning about the fascinating geology and history beneath your feet.
The hike lasts approximately three hours, with around ninety minutes spent directly on the glacier. Along the way, you'll enjoy the unique sights of melting ice lagoons and moss-covered mountains, and after your trek, you'll be treated to steaming coffee and Icelandic chocolates to warm up and celebrate your achievement.
This small-group experience is suitable for ages eight and up, with all safety gear included. Free parking is available at the meeting point, and hiking boots or waterproof clothing can be rented if needed. Secure your spot now and experience the magic of Iceland's glaciers before they change forever.
