Dive deep into the hidden layers of Naples with a guided tour of the fascinating Galleria Borbonica. The tour highlights the tunnel's transformation, including its use during wartime and its current status as a historical site, showcasing remnants of its past.

Galleria Borbonica, located a mere 100 meters from Plebiscito Square, presents a fascinating entrance to the Bourbon Tunnel. This site, once a veterinary laboratory, now leads visitors down a staircase with eight ramps, descending 33 yards into the heart of Naples' Chiaia district. An alternative entrance is located at Via Domenico Morelli 40, accessible through the 'Quick Parking' crosswalk.

The tunnel's origins trace back to 1853 when it was commissioned by Ferdinand II of Bourbon. The king, worried about potential uprisings, intended it as an escape route from the Royal Palace to the military barrack in Via della Pace, now known as Via Morelli. However, the construction was never fully completed.

During World War II, the tunnel found a new purpose, serving as a military hospital for residents. After the war, it transformed into the Hall Judicial Deposit, a testament to the turbulent times.

The tunnel bore silent witness to Naples' rich and complex history, which makes it a must-visit during your trip to the city.

Throughout the experience, a knowledgeable expert will guide you, offering valuable insights and information. The activity is offered in 2 languages: English and Italian.

Amazing!

You must do this tour if you’re in Naples. It’s especially good to see if you’re American, as this is something that I don’t think we were taught about in school. Parts of the tour are like an underground cathedral with tall ceilings, others are narrower tunnels. The tour guide was very informative, entertaining, and kept a good pace.

Amazing!

David is a such enthusiastic guide with a wide range of knowledge. this tour was for everyone really a pleasure. he always asked "any questions" so everybody had his full experience and he knows everything. the spot is worth to visit and a little unreal for our time, remembering world war II and the historic water system of naples.

Fabulous tour of underground Napoli. Not to be missed but beware it is only open Friday to Sunday and holidays. Fascinating to see what’s left behind and hear the history.
