Private Doge's Palace & St Mark's Basilica After Hours Night Tour

Cannot say enough great things about this tour. We were hesitant to book due to the price for 5 people but was worth every euro. No crowds, private access to things and our tour guide Valentina was exceptional. We'll spoken, knowledgeable and had a love and enthusiasm for the history. I have three teenagers and she kept their interest the entire time and I'm a teacher so I appreciated her enthusiasm and delivery. I asked tons of questions too. My oldest son said this was the best tour he'd ever been on. My 2nd child said the cathedral was his favorite because the lights were off then a big reveal he never expected. I can't encourage you enough to take the tour. Request Valentina. We loved how much she spoke in neutral terms and not heavy opinions, and he love and knowledge just came through. The tour company is called Walks, just in case you want to book directly with them.

Philippo was wonderful. Incredibly knowledgeable with fascinating stories. He responded to all sorts of questions with many details. What an amazing tour. It left us wanting more.

Nico was very informative and answered all of our questions and our kids questions. He took his time and never made us feel rushed. He couldn’t have been nicer and we had a lovely experience would highly recommend Nico!!

This was the best tour that we had in our 2 weeks in Italy. Sabrina was amazing and very knowledgeable. It was incredible to experience the church without the 100’s of people that are in the church during the day and to be able to take time to marvel at the golden altarpiece. Sabrina was very passionate about the buildings and everyone in our group loved it from our youngest at 9 years old all the way up to the adults. Thanks for a wonderful experience on our last day in Italy.

He was very informative and kept things interesting for the 5 of us. To see it at night was pretty spectacular. I would highly recommend this tour to avoid the crowds and see both sights unrushed. Our tour with Ottavia was wonderful. She gave us a good understanding of what we were seeing at both places toured. St. Mark’s Basilica was spectacular at night, truly not to be missed. The evening private tours were relaxed and enjoyable with day crowds gone. I highly recommend this as a Venice highlight. We don’t often do tours but after coming to Venice for more than 30 years we decided to visit St Mark’s. We didn’t fancy the crowds there now are during the day so chose this.

Ottavia was our guide. There was one other private tour and two group tours and the other tours didn’t impact our tour.

The tour started with a tour of the square where Ottavia gave a bit of history on the square, Venice and the architecture. Some we knew some we didn’t. Then it was into the basilica for an hour. Yes you had to wait at mosaics pointed out to all tours or the Pala d’Oro but it never felt like waiting in a queue as Ottavia gave some history or pointed out something of interest.

During the tour all the lights were turned out and then relit one by one. You see the Pala d’Oro - generally only revealed for mass and the crypt which has a system to clear water and is used for services during tourist visits. A first for us.
