Rome: Ancient Mosaic Making Workshop

Guided by a master mosaicist, you’ll learn traditional techniques that have been passed down through generations, gaining insight into the fascinating history and craft of Roman mosaics.

Your experience begins with an engaging introduction to the origins and methods of mosaic art. You’ll discover how ancient artisans created their masterpieces before trying your hand at cutting marble tiles and arranging them into your own unique design. All tools and high-quality, local marble are provided for you.

Throughout the workshop, you’ll work in an authentic mosaic studio, surrounded by the creative energy of Rome. The session is designed for small groups, ensuring personalized guidance as you craft a mosaic that meets the standards of ancient Roman craftsmanship. At the end, you’ll have a beautiful 7” x 5” mosaic to take home, safely packed in a sturdy box.

The workshop lasts approximately 2.5 hours and is suitable for participants aged 12 and up. Refreshments such as bottled water, coffee, and tea are included to keep you comfortable as you work. Please note that transportation to and from the studio is not included, so plan your journey accordingly.
