What should I expect from a B&B?
B&Bs are traditionally small family owned and run properties offering a handful of guest rooms. They are usually residential properties, so they tend to be located on the outskirts of towns and you should be prepared for a 20-30 minute walk to local facilities like pubs and restaurants.
It’s unusual for a B&B to offer any additional services like concierge, porterage, evening meals or room-service. Wi-fi is usually, but not always available and it’s worth bearing in mind that access can be unreliable in more remote locations.
If you have difficulty with stairs, please request a ground-floor room as lifts will not be available in this type of property.

Begin at Midhope Castle, the real-life Lallybroch, and then explore the historic village of Culross, known as Cranesmuir in the series. Continue to Falkland, which stands in for 1940s Inverness, and visit the Newtonmore Highland Folk Museum to experience 18th-century Highland life. Conclude the day in Inverness, where you'll stay overnight at a comfortable hotel (or similar).

Begin your day with a visit to the ancient Clava Cairns, believed to have inspired the standing stones of Craigh na Dun. Next, explore the poignant Culloden Battlefield and its visitor centre, where you can pay tribute to those who fought in the last battle on British soil. Visit the tomb of Lord Lovat, Jamie's grandfather in the saga, before returning to Inverness for another evening in the city.

Start your day with a visit to the stunning Glen Affric, a perfect hideaway for Jamie. Continue along Loch Ness to the dramatic Urquhart Castle, where you might even spot Nessie. Travel through the Great Glen to Glenfinnan, where the monument commemorates Bonnie Prince Charlie's meeting with his supporters. End your day in Fort William, nestled beneath the towering Ben Nevis, and stay overnight at a cozy hotel (or similar).
