We use a minibus for all transfers to the areas where we are walking.
We use three hotels on this trip, in Newcastle, Alnwick and Keswick. Below are the accommodations we typically use.
Newcastle: Royal Station Hotel (night 1)
The Royal Station Hotel in Newcastle is a Grade I-listed retreat within an easy walk of the train station and city centre. The rooms are classically styled and there’s an in-house cocktail bar and leisure club.
Alnwick: The Hogs Head Inn (nights 2-3)
The Hogs Head Inn was built in 2012 but to a traditional style and set within extensive landscaped grounds.
Keswick: Royal Oak (nights 4-6)
The three-star Royal Oak in Keswick town centre is a boutique-style accommodation within an 18th-century coaching inn. Over the years, it’s welcomed a host of literary luminaries, including Lord Tennyson, Robert Louis Stevenson and Sir Walter Scott.

Day 1 – Day 1: Newcastle

Our journey kicks off in Newcastle, a city that has evolved from an industrial giant to a vibrant cultural hub. We gather at the hotel reception at 6pm to meet and greet before enjoying a group dinner. If you arrive early, take a stroll to the iconic Tyne Bridge, a Grade II*-listed arch that has become a symbol of the city since its opening in 1928 by King George V. Day 2 – Day 2: Alnwick and Alnmouth

We depart Newcastle for Alnwick, a historic market town dominated by its grand Norman castle. Our day begins with a town walk, followed by a visit to Alnwick Castle, the second largest inhabited castle in the UK. Explore its lavish state rooms, try your hand at archery, or take a broomstick flying lesson like Harry Potter. In the afternoon, we head to the coastal village of Alnmouth, known for its charming pastel-colored cottages. Enjoy a traditional British seaside experience with fish and chips on the beach. Day 3 – Day 3: Lindisfarne and Bamburgh

After breakfast, we journey to Lindisfarne, also known as Holy Island, the birthplace of Christianity in England. We explore the ruins of a 12th-century priory and a castle converted by Sir Edwin Lutyens. Later, we visit Bamburgh Castle, a fortress with a history spanning over 1,400 years. The day's activities are influenced by tidal conditions. Accommodation: The Hog's Head Inn (or similar), Alnwick.
Day 4 – Day 4: Hadrian's Wall and the Lake District

Today we traverse the country to visit the Roman ruins of Hadrian's Wall, a UNESCO World Heritage site. We explore Vindolanda, a well-preserved Roman garrison, and pass by the famous Sycamore Gap. After our walk, we transfer to the Lake District, known for its stunning landscapes and charming towns. Accommodation: The Royal Oak (or similar), Keswick.
Day 5 – Day 5: Cat Bells and Keswick

We embark on a classic Lake District adventure: fell walking. Our destination is Cat Bells, a picturesque fell offering stunning views of the countryside and Derwent Water. After our hike, we take a ferry back to Keswick, where you have free time to relax or explore this historic market town. Accommodation: The Royal Oak (or similar), Keswick.
Day 6 – Day 6: Helvellyn
Day 6: Helvellyn
Today we tackle Helvellyn, the third highest peak in the Lake District. Known as one of the greatest walks in England, the route offers breathtaking views of the rural landscape. After our rewarding hike, we stop for a pint at the King's Head, a 17th-century coaching inn with stunning views. Accommodation: The Royal Oak (or similar), Keswick.
Day 7 – Day 7: Return Journey

After breakfast, we begin our return journey. A transfer to Penrith is provided, where hourly trains to London and Scotland are available. We aim to arrive at Penrith station by 9:30am.
