Peaks of the Balkans Tour in 12 days – Choose Balkans Route

Welcome to Albania, the land of Eagles! Upon your arrival at the airport, you'll be greeted by our professional driver who will take you to your accommodation in Tirana. This day is designed for you to relax after your journey and get to know your fellow travelers. We'll also have a meet and greet at our office, where our professional team will provide you with all the necessary instructions for the tour. Overnight stay will be in Tirana.

Rise and shine early for our journey towards the Albanian Alps. We'll pick you up from your hotel in Tirana or Shkoder and head towards Northern Albania. Along the way, you'll be treated to beautiful landscapes, wild fields, rivers, and Shkodra Lake. We'll then embark on a local transport ride to Theth, a rural area famous for its medicinal herbs. After a short break, we'll start our hiking journey towards the Blue Eye, a stunning natural attraction formed by the erosion of the water from the melting snow of the Albanian Alps. We'll also visit the Old Church and the Lock in Tower in Theth before retiring for the night in a local guesthouse.

Prepare for an intense day of trekking as we make our way from Theth to Valbona. This 6 to 8-hour walk takes us through remote terrain, offering impressive mountain views. We'll traverse an old mule trail, with the Theth valley on one side and Valbona valley on the other. The Valbona pass offers a spectacular view of the Balkan Peaks and the Accursed Mountains. After a day of exploration, we'll retire for the night in a guesthouse in Valbona.

Our next destination is Cerem, a charming village high in the mountains. On our hike, we'll pass through forests and meadows, and even an area that still has snow during the summer. For the more adventurous, there's an option to hike to the highest peak of Montenegro, Zla Kolate peak. We'll also pass a mysterious cave with an extremely cold wind. Upon arrival in Cerem, we'll settle into a shepherd's hut for the night, offering a unique experience of life away from civilization.

From Cerem, we'll hike towards Doberdol, following a mule track. We'll cross the border to Montenegro for about two hours, passing through pine forests and the only National Reserve in Albania. Doberdol, our destination for today, is a beautiful village populated only during the summer by shepherds. Despite the basic conditions, the locals' hospitality and delicious regional food make for a memorable experience. Overnight stay will be in a shepherd's hut in Doberdol.

Today's hike begins with a climb up Tromeda Mountain. This peak is unique as it allows you to stand in Albania, Montenegro, and Kosovo at the same time. After reaching this peak, we'll continue the hike along the border between Kosovo and Montenegro, offering beautiful views of endless meadows and Bogicevica National Park. We'll then descend into the village of Roshkodol, where we'll spend the night in a local guesthouse.

After breakfast, we'll continue our hike to Babino Polje, a picturesque region of Montenegro surrounded by the natural beauty of the Durmitor National Park. The region is rich in biodiversity, and you may have the opportunity to spot various plant and animal species. The locals here are known for their hospitality and their traditional alcoholic drink, Raki. Overnight stay will be in a traditional guesthouse in Babino Polje.

Today, we'll embark on a hike from Babino Polje to Plav, traversing pristine landscapes and untouched forests. The highlight of the trail is Lake Hrid, the most beautiful lake in all of Montenegro. Local legend says that swimming in this alpine lake brings good health and good luck in marriage. As we reach the summit, the view of Plav unfolds in front of you, nestled between the Prokletije Mountains. Overnight stay will be in Plav.

After breakfast, we'll continue our adventure through the Peaks of the Balkans. This trail unfolds like a tapestry of wonder, leading you through landscapes that seem almost surreal in their beauty. As the ascent in elevation continues, the scenery undergoes a breathtaking transformation into an alpine paradise. Approaching Vusanje, the landscape opens up to reveal a valley of unparalleled beauty. Overnight stay will be in Vusanje.

Our destination for today is Talijanka peak, where we'll cross the border from Montenegro to Albania. This peak offers stunning views of the Accursed Mountains, Lepushe Village in Albania, and Lake Plav in Montenegro. After enjoying the spectacular views, we'll hike back to Vuthaj where you'll have the opportunity to visit the Ali Pasha springs or simply relax and reminisce on the day's adventure. Overnight stay will be in a guest house in Vuthaj.

From Vuthaj, we'll head towards Theth and cross the border back to Albania. During this trek, we'll visit a hidden water place and pass by one of the highest peaks of the Balkans, the Arapi peak. We'll also come across multiple shepherd's huts, offering a glimpse into a way of life away from civilization. Overnight stay will be in a guest house in Theth.

Wake up to the magnificent view of the Albanian Alps and enjoy some free time to take in the wild beauty of the Accursed Mountains. Later in the day, we'll drive back through the mountainous terrain to Shkoder or Tirana. As you return home, you'll carry with you the wonders of Albania and a newfound sense of excitement to share with those around you.
