Peaks of the Balkans Tour in 8 days – Choose Balkans Route

We start our journey from Tirana or Shkoder, heading towards the Albanian Alps. As we drive through the wild fields and rugged mountains, we'll take a detour to Theth, a rural area known for its medicinal herbs and lavender fields. We'll hike to the Blue Eye, a natural wonder formed by the erosion of melting snow. After a refreshing break, we'll visit the Old Church and the Lock in Tower in Theth, each with centuries of history. We'll spend the night in a local guesthouse in Theth.

Our second day is dedicated to trekking from Theth to Valbona, a journey that takes us through an old mule trail and stunning mountain landscapes. We'll cross the Valbona Pass, offering spectacular views of the Balkan Peaks and the Accursed Mountains. The trek will take us through wild forests and beautiful landscapes, culminating in a thrilling ascent to the top of the Valbona Pass. We'll spend the night in a guesthouse in Valbona.

On the third day, we'll hike from Valbona to Cerem, passing through forests and meadows. We'll have the option to hike to the highest peak of Montenegro, Zla Kolata peak. We'll also pass a mysterious cave with an extremely cold wind. Our destination, Cerem, is a remote village high in the mountains, offering a unique experience of life away from civilization. We'll spend the night in a traditional shepherd's hut in Cerem.

On the fourth day, we'll hike from Cerem to Doberdol, following a mule track and crossing the border to Montenegro. We'll pass through pine forests, teeming with berries, and the only National Reserve in Albania, home to brown bears and lynxes. We'll also pass shepherd's hut villages, offering a glimpse into the local way of life. We'll spend the night in a shepherd's hut in Doberdol, enjoying the local hospitality and delicious regional food.

Day five begins with a climb up Tromeda Mountain, a unique peak where you can stand in Albania, Montenegro, and Kosovo at the same time. We'll continue the hike along the border between Kosovo and Montenegro, enjoying views of endless meadows and Bogicevica National Park. Our day ends in the charming village of Babino Polje, where we'll spend the night.

On the sixth day, we'll hike from Babino Polje to Plav, traversing pristine landscapes and untouched forests. We'll pass by Lake Hrid, the most beautiful lake in Montenegro, where local legend says that swimming brings good health and luck in marriage. As we reach the summit, we'll be rewarded with a stunning view of Plav, nestled between the Prokletije Mountains. We'll spend the night in Plav.

On the seventh day, we'll continue our adventure from Plav to Vusanje. The trail will take us through dense forests and alpine landscapes, offering panoramic views of rugged valleys and expansive meadows. As we approach Vusanje, we'll be greeted by a valley of unparalleled beauty. We'll spend the night in Vusanje, immersing ourselves in the tranquility of this quaint village.

On the final day, we'll trek from Vusanje to Theth, crossing the border back to Albania. We'll visit a hidden water place and pass by one of the highest peaks of the Balkans, the Arapi peak. We'll also come across shepherd's huts in the Albanian Alps. After arriving in Theth, we'll drive back to Tirana, bringing our adventure to a close.
