Zagoria Valley: A hidden corner where time holds its breath

Your Albanian adventure begins upon your arrival at the airport. A private transfer will whisk you away to the historical village of Peshtan, nestled on the mountainside. Here, you'll be welcomed by your local hosts, Mira and her husband, who will guide you through the village's rich history, including its significant role in the Greco-Italian war. Your accommodation for the night will be a cozy guesthouse in Peshtan.

Day two begins with a scenic hike from Peshtan to Limara. The trail ascends through open woodland, offering panoramic views of the valley and the majestic Strakavec peak. Along the way, marvel at the stone bridge over the Deshnica River, a testament to 19th-century Albanian architecture. After approximately 5 to 6 hours of hiking, you'll reach the picturesque village of Limara, where you'll be hosted by Nol, the village teacher, in his guest house.

Day three takes you on a hike from Limara to Hoshteve, through vibrant fields and oak forests. Enjoy a picnic by a cool stream and explore the nearly deserted village of Deshnice. Your journey ends in Hoshteve, known for its larger church and remarkable icons. From Hoshteve, you'll be transferred to the village of Sheper for the night.

Day four presents a hike from Sheper to Permet, offering some of the best trails in the region. As you ascend to Dhembel, you'll be treated to panoramic views of Permet, Vjosa River, and the Zagori Valley. The descent towards Permet offers a spectacular panorama and an opportunity to explore the village of Leuse, known for its orthodox church adorned with frescoes.

Day five begins with a scenic drive from Permet, tracing the vibrant Vjosa River. The hike takes you through a donkey path, rewarding you with breathtaking views of the Vjosa Valley and Mt. Nemercka. The day ends at the Lengarica Canyon, where you'll find the renowned thermal springs of Benja, a perfect place to relax and rejuvenate.

Day six is all about relaxation and exploration. Start your day with a hike to the trailhead, offering stunning views of the Vjosa River and the Nemercka Range. After your hike, unwind in the warm thermal pools of Benje, believed to have curative properties, or venture through the stunning Langarica Canyon.

The final day of your tour takes you to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Gjirokaster, an Ottoman rocky town known for its old houses and beautiful stone-covered roofs. After exploring the city, you'll be transferred to Tirana, where you'll spend the night, marking the end of your unforgettable Albanian adventure.
