Wipp Traverse - Austria and Italy - 6 days

Begin your journey in the picturesque city of Innsbruck, easily accessible by long-distance trains. From there, take a free S-Bahn connection or drive to Matrei am Brenner, where you'll be warmly welcomed by your host Florian. Enjoy a delicious dinner and rest up for the adventure ahead.

Start your day with a short transfer from your hotel to Mieders in the tranquil Stubai Valley. Follow an ancient pilgrimage route uphill, passing 15 places of worship along the chapel trail. Visit the Maria Waldrast Monastery, one of the highest and oldest pilgrimage sites in the Alps. After a short break, hike down to your hotel in Matrei.

After a brief transfer, begin your hike at the Ochsenalm. Traverse through the Lange Tal, climbing up to the Blaserhütte. Enjoy a well-deserved rest before descending to the charming town of Trins. From there, take a bus and S-Bahn back to Matrei.

Take public transport to Trins and continue your journey through a beautiful, unspoilt high valley to the Trunahütte. Climb up to the Eggerjoch and the Eggerberg, taking in the breathtaking views. Visit the serene Lichtsee Lake before descending to Obernberg. After a short break, return to Matrei by bus and S-Bahn.

Start your day in Obernberg, hiking through the Fradertal valley and up to the Flachjoch. Follow the Jubiläumsweg trail along old border paths between North Tyrol and South Tyrol. Reach the Sattelberg, a border between Austria and Italy, and enjoy the stunning views of the Zillertal and Stubai Alps. Descend to the cosy Sattelbergalm, where you'll spend the night.

After breakfast at the Sattelbergalm, hike towards the Steinalm and then descend to the Brenner Pass. Along the way, make a short detour to the Eisack waterfall. Once at the Brenner Pass, enjoy a refreshing drink at one of the many bars or visit the Brenner outlet for some shopping. Return to Matrei by S-Bahn for your individual departure.
