Day 1

Day 1: BSI bus terminal to Hrafntinnusker mountain hut

Our journey begins from the BSI bus terminal at 07:00, where we board a bus that takes us through the mountain tracks leading to Landmannalaugar. En route, we pass by the majestic Hekla volcano and other volcanoes in the Dómadalur area. We reach Landmannalaugar around noon, where we break for lunch before heading south into the mountains. The trail leads us past small gorges, steaming hot springs, and yellow mountain ridges. Our day concludes at the Hrafntinnusker mountain hut, where we spend the night.

Day 2: Hrafntinnusker to Álftavatn hut

Day two takes us from Hrafntinnusker, descending into the gullies of Jökultungur, an area teeming with hundreds of steaming hot springs and mud pools. From here, we enjoy fascinating views to the south, towards the Álftavatn area, and the Mýrdalsjökull and Eyjafjallajökull glaciers. Our day concludes at the Álftavatn hut, where we spend the night.

On the third day, we pass by the green conic volcano of Stórasúla before entering the black deserts of Mælifellssandur. We then head towards another ancient and verdurous volcano, the Hattfell, and enter the Emstrur region. Here, we visit the magnificent Markarfljót canyon before arriving at the Botnar hut, where we spend the night.

Day four sees us continue through the small valleys and gullies of Emstrur, with the great Mýrdalsjökull glacier rising only a couple of kilometers away. As the day progresses, we descend into Þórsmörk's green valleys filled with arctic birch forests and colorful flowers. We spend the night in one of the huts in Þórsmörk.

On the final day, we spend the morning in Þórsmörk, walking along one of its numerous paths. We may visit the Sönghellir cave or climb up the small mountain of Valahnúkur for a magnificent view. In the afternoon, we take the bus back to Reykjavik, arriving at the BSI bus terminal at 19:30, where our memorable journey concludes.
