5 Days Self-Drive | Golden Circle, South Coast & Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon (Summer)

Welcome to Iceland! Collect your car at Keflavik International Airport and begin your journey through the stark beauty of the Reykjanes Peninsula's lava fields. If you wish, make a stop at the world-famous Blue Lagoon. Here, you can unwind in the warm, mineral-rich waters, enjoy a sauna or steam room session, and even indulge in a complimentary beverage. After a relaxing start to your trip, continue to your accommodation near the town of Borgarnes for the night.

After breakfast, set off for the Golden Circle, home to some of Iceland's most iconic sights. Visit Þingvellir National Park, where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates are visibly separating. Next, explore the Geysir Geothermal Area, known for its erupting hot springs, and marvel at the majestic Gullfoss Waterfall. Optional activities for the day include snowmobiling, dog-sledding, or snorkeling in Silfra. End the day in the town of Hella or its surroundings, where you'll spend the night.

Today, you'll explore the stunning South Coast of Iceland. Start with the dramatic Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls, each offering unique and breathtaking views. Then, visit Reynisfjara, the famous black sand beach, where you can see basalt columns, cliffside bird nests, and the powerful waves of the Atlantic. Optional activities include a glacier hike in Sólheimajökull or a visit to the DC3 Plane Wreck. Spend the night on the South Coast, ready for another day of adventure.

Head to the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon area after breakfast. Here, you'll witness the awe-inspiring sight of icebergs floating in the lagoon and on the nearby Diamond Beach. You can choose to take a boat tour among the icebergs or simply enjoy the views from the shore. After a day filled with natural wonders, make your way to Reykjavik, where you'll spend the night.
