Day 1 – Day 1: BSI bus terminal to Hrafntinnusker mountain hut

Our journey begins at the BSI bus terminal, from where we'll take a scenic bus ride through the summer mountain tracks, passing by the majestic Hekla volcano. We'll reach the stunning Landmannalaugar around noon, where we'll enjoy lunch before heading south into the mountains. Our trail will lead us past small gorges and steaming hot springs, culminating in our arrival at the Hrafntinnusker mountain hut in the late afternoon, where we'll spend the night.

We'll start our day by descending into the gullies of Jökultungur, a geothermal area filled with hot springs and mud pools. As we journey south, we'll be treated to stunning views of the Álftavatn area, Mýrdalsjökull and Eyjafjallajökull glaciers. Our day ends at the cozy Álftavatn hut, where we'll rest for the night.

Our third day takes us past the green conic Stórasúla volcano and into the black deserts of Mælifellssandur. We'll then head towards the verdant Hattfell volcano and into the Emstrur region. Before reaching our accommodation for the night, the Botnar hut, we'll visit the awe-inspiring Markarfljót canyon.

We'll continue our journey through the valleys and gullies of Emstrur, with the majestic Mýrdalsjökull glacier in view. As the day progresses, we'll descend into the lush green valleys of Þórsmörk, filled with arctic birch forests and vibrant flowers. We'll spend the night in one of the huts in this beautiful region.

Leaving Þórsmörk, we'll cross the river Krossá and enter the magical landscapes of Goðalönd. We'll hike up the hills leading to the Fimmvörðuháls pass, passing by the impressive mountain of Útigönguhöfði and the lava stream from the 2010 Fimmvörðuháls eruption. After exploring this unique landscape, we'll head back down to the Básar Hut in Þórsmörk, where we'll spend the night.

Our final day is spent in Þórsmörk, where we have a variety of paths to explore. We can visit the Sönghellir cave, climb the small mountain of Valahnúkur for a breathtaking view, or hike into the beautifully carved Stakkholtsgjá canyon. After a day of exploration, we'll return to our hut in Þórsmörk for a final night's rest.
