5 nights in Icelandic Huts - On this tour we stay in rustic, but charming highland huts located in remote areas. These huts are large and can accommodate many people in large rooms, usually with bunk beds. There is normally a small kitchen with stoves, hot water and utensils. A communal shower/toilet block is available for travellers on this tour and communally by anyone else staying at the accommodation. Everyone on the tour will participate in camp chores such as cooking and washing up.

Our adventure begins early in Reykjavik, where we embark on a scenic drive along Iceland's south coast before ascending into the rugged highlands. The journey offers breathtaking views, including the formidable Hekla volcano. Upon reaching Landmannalaugar, the starting point of the legendary Laugavegur trail, we explore the Laugahraun lava field, Vondugil canyon, and the vibrant rhyolite mountains, with Mt. Brennisteinsalda as a highlight. As we head to our accommodation, we marvel at Graenagil gorge and, if time permits, ascend Blahnjukur Volcano for awe-inspiring views. Our rustic highland huts provide a charming and communal experience, perfect for the start of our adventure.

After a hearty breakfast, we set off through the Hrafntinnusker obsidian desert, past the vibrant Reykjafjoll rhyolite mountains, and into the mesmerizing Jokultungur region. The geothermal forces here have sculpted the landscape into a striking palette of colors. Reaching the summit of Jokultungur, we enjoy panoramic views across the Fjallabak region and Alftavatn Lake, where we spend the night. The day's journey includes fording a river on foot, adding an extra layer of excitement to our adventure.

Today's journey begins with a thrilling wade across a stream as we head towards Maelifellssandur and delve into the dramatic volcanic terrain. We encounter the imposing Storasula and Hattafell volcanoes, guiding us towards Emstrur. If the weather is favorable, we enjoy stunning vistas of the Eyjafjallajokull and Myrdalsjokull glaciers. As we make our way to Botnar, a green sanctuary amidst a black sand desert, we marvel at the Markarfljotsgljufur canyon. We spend the night in this captivating area, soaking in its rugged beauty.

After a hearty breakfast, we bid farewell to Emstrur and Botnar and set off on our hike to Thorsmork. As we traverse the Almenningar gorge near Mount Einhyrningur, we continue to enjoy breathtaking views of the glaciers. As we draw nearer to Thorsmork, the landscape transforms, with clusters of trees heralding the onset of lush birch forests. Our accommodation tonight is set in a stunning location beneath the towering Eyjafjallajokull and Myrdalsjokull glaciers, perfect for celebrating the completion of the Laugavegur Trail.

Today, we explore the awe-inspiring Fimmvorduhals Pass, nestled between Myrdalajokull and the notorious Eyjafjallajokull. We visit the newly formed Magni and Modi craters, born from the 2010 eruption. The scenery on the Fimmvorduhals Pass is spectacular, with fresh lava flows vividly illustrating Iceland's volcanic forces. We spend our final night amidst the other-worldly landscapes of Thorsmork, celebrating with a traditional Icelandic feast featuring succulent grilled lamb.

On our final day, we immerse ourselves in the stunning beauty of Thorsmork and its surroundings. A hike up Mount Utigonguhofdi promises breathtaking panoramic views over the valley and surrounding glaciers. For a more relaxed experience, a leisurely stroll to Husadalur or unwinding around Langidalur offers a serene way to enjoy the landscape. As we head back to Reykjavik, we glimpse the iconic Seljalandsfoss waterfall. We arrive in Reykjavik in the early evening, bringing our unforgettable adventure to a close.
