Irish cuisine is the result of a mixing of culture over hundreds of years from British to continental European influence. Given its proximity to the sea, chowders and seafood are a popular fair in this region. Notable dishes include Irish stew, coddle with soda bread, bacon and cabbage, and colcannon. Given that grass in Ireland grows 10 months out of the year, there is no need to shelter grazing cattle, which yields incredible dairy products! These include milk, butter, curds, and cheese- notably Dubliner with its texture not unlike Parmesan. You can also find Boxty, a potato pancake dish, or Shepherd’s pie with its mix of mashed potato, vegetables, and minced beef or lamb. For those with a love of ale you can find Guinness, Murphy’s Irish Stout, Beamish stout, Smithwick’s red ale, Irish Coffee with whiskey, Jameson Irish Whiskey, Paddy Whiskey, Bushmills Whiskey, and various forms of meads and ciders. In short, Irish food and drink will be a pleasant addition to your trekking adventure!
Lunches on this trip will consist of picnic lunches of various cold cuts/sandwiches, and vegetables.
We can often accommodate vegan, vegetarian and non-gluten diets and make adjustments for food allergies. These and other special dietary requests may require an additional fee, and in some countries may be more difficult to accommodate than others.
