Welcome to Matera, a city unique for its fascinating cave dwellings. Once home to as many as 25,000 people, these caves and churches are now preserved as a World Heritage Site. After settling into our hotel, we'll gather for a welcome dinner.

We'll begin the day with a loop ride around Matera, visiting the fortified Massaria Jesce, an ancient Roman 'post office', and the 14th-century cave crypt of San Michele Arcangelo. In the afternoon, we'll delve deeper into Matera's history with a guided walk, including a visit to a typical sassi, a cave dwelling house.

Today, we'll shuttle from Matera to Gioia del Colle, known for one of Frederic II's castles. We'll cycle through olive groves and vineyards to the heart of Puglia's trulli region, Valle d'Itria. Our destination is the vibrant town of Locorotondo, where we'll sample Puglia's renowned cheeses and explore the historic buildings.

We'll pedal to the iconic 'trulli' town of Alberobello, where we'll learn more about these unique conical shaped buildings. After exploring and having lunch in Alberobello, we'll cycle back to Locorotondo.
Day 5 – Day 5: Locorotondo to Ostuni

Our ride today takes us through vineyards and olive groves to the whitewashed town of Ostuni. Our hotel is located in the center of this amazing village, which spans three hilltops and is crowned by a Gothic cathedral. Ostuni, rebuilt by the Greeks and later flourished during the Italian Renaissance, offers an imposing and beautiful cityscape.

We'll take a loop ride from our hotel to the Adriatic Sea coast. We'll visit an underground olive press dating back to pre-Roman times and ride along the Via Appia Traiana. We'll have a chance to dip into the Adriatic Sea before continuing to the medieval town of Carovigno and back to our hotel.
