Cycling Southwestern Sicily's Ancient Mediterranean Cities

Begin your adventure in Agrigento, home to one of the most impressive collections of ancient Greek temples in the Mediterranean. Our hotel, conveniently located near the ruins, sets the stage for a guided tour of the Valle dei Templi. As the sun sets, watch the limestone columns glow golden. We’ll cap off the evening with a celebratory dinner together.

Today's ride takes you through a picturesque landscape of wheat fields and vineyards as you head inland towards the village of Cattolica Eraclea. The sweet scent of oranges signals your approach to Ribera, renowned for its orange and olive groves. The scenery transforms into whimsical geologic formations as you near Ribera. Your destination today is the charming town of Sciacca.

Embark on a challenging yet scenic ride to the hilltop village of Caltabellotta, perched on a limestone peak 3,000 feet above Sciacca. Enjoy a lunch of Sicilian specialties before continuing your journey through aromatic citrus and olive groves. Arrive at our elegant lodge for the night, where you can take a refreshing dip in the swimming pool and soak in the spectacular views.

Ride to Selinunte for a guided tour of some of Sicily's most spectacular ruins. The Greek ruins are divided between two ridges, one featuring temples and the other the remnants of the ancient city. Opt for an additional ride to the beach at Porto Palo for extra mileage and a chance to swim. Tonight, enjoy a special dinner at a local winery, complete with wine tasting and a visit.

Today's ride takes you through rolling hills covered in vineyards, leading you to Castelvetrano. Admire its beautiful square before continuing to Mazara del Vallo, where you can explore examples of Muslim architecture and enjoy fresh fish from one of Italy's largest fishing ports. Ride along the shore to Marsala, where we'll sample the famous fortified Marsala wines.

Ride west today, partially along the coast, before ascending to the hilltop village of Erice. Once a Greek town and important medieval fortress, Erice retains its original ambiance. The day's ride concludes in the coastal town of Trapani, where we'll enjoy a celebratory dinner together.

Trapani's strategic position has seen Carthaginians, Normans, Arabs, Spanish, and Bourbons walk its streets before the unified Republic of Italy was formed in 1861. If you have extra time, we recommend a boat excursion to the nearby island of Favignana. Join us again soon!
