The accommodation on this trip is one of the highlights. We stay in handpicked hotels and B&Bs in hilltop towns where the views are often outstanding. In Pitigliano, our B&B is housed in a few locations scattered through the town with kitchen and bedroom and often a view included. In Sorano we stay in a castle oozing with atmosphere. In Orvieto we use a charming centrally located hotel in the traditional Italian style, while in Bolseno we stay in an agriturismo with a pool overlooking the lake.

Begin your journey in the ancient town of Orvieto, perched atop a tufaceous cliff. Spend the day exploring the town's rich Etruscan history, marvel at the stunning Orvieto Cathedral, and visit St Patrick's Well, a marvel of engineering. In the evening, enjoy a glass of local wine over dinner at a charming restaurant in town.
Day 2 – Day 2: Civita di Bagnoregio to Lubriano and Orvieto

Start your day with a transfer to the hilltop town of Civita di Bagnoregio, known as 'the dying city'. From there, take a shuttle bus to Lubriano, where you can visit the Naturalist Museum and enjoy the stunning views of the Lazio badlands. Continue your journey on foot, crossing back into Umbria to Orvieto. Overnight in Orvieto.

Today's walk takes you from Orvieto to Bolsena, through a changing landscape from the harsh Calanchi to the fertile lake valley. Enjoy your first glimpse of Lake Bolsena, a crater lake formed by a dormant volcano. In Bolsena, visit the Cappella del Miracolo and learn about the miracle of the Corpus Domini. Enjoy a delicious dinner by the lake.
Day 4 – Day 4: Sovana to Pitigliano
Day 4: Sovana to Pitigliano
A private transfer takes you to the Etruscan Necropolis of Sovana, an archaeological site with a variety of tombs. From there, walk through vineyards, olive groves, and pastures towards Pitigliano, a town dramatically perched on a tufa ridge. Explore the Etruscan Via Cava before reaching Pitigliano.

Spend the day exploring the renowned Vie Cave of Pitigliano and visiting an archaeological park. Depending on your energy levels, you can choose to take an optional transfer to an Agriturismo just outside of town and walk back through the beautiful Maremma countryside, passing Etruscan tombs on your way.

Today's destination is Sorano, a charming hilltop hamlet known as 'the Matera of Tuscany'. Explore the town and visit the impressive Orsini fortress, a castle that once belonged to the noble Orsini family. Spend the night in Sorano, soaking in the magical atmosphere.

Day 7: Exploring Sorano
Spend your last walking day exploring the surroundings of Sorano. Take an easy walk through the Archaeological area of Vitozza, a series of caves first inhabited in the 11th Century. You also have the option to visit the ruins of a Medieval castle and church. Spend another night in Sorano, enjoying the tranquil ambiance.
