7-Day Sicily Guided Cycling Tour From Catania to Syracuse

Welcome to Catania! Upon your arrival, you'll be transferred to your hotel, the Grand Hotel Villa Itria (or similar), located north of Catania. Your tour guide will meet you at the hotel reception at 19:00. After a brief introduction to the trip, you'll enjoy a delightful dinner at a traditional Sicilian pizzeria, just a short walk from the hotel.

Today, we'll explore the majestic Mount Etna, the highest volcano in Europe. After a scenic bus ride, we'll hike along its craters and marvel at the stunning views of the coast and Catania below. After a picnic lunch, you'll have the option to cycle through the settlements at the foot of the mountain or return to the hotel. In the late afternoon, we'll tour the baroque gem that is Catania's old town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We'll end the day with a delicious dinner in the city. Overnight at the Grand Hotel Villa Itria (or similar).

After breakfast, we'll drive to the northern slope of the Etna massif. From there, we'll cycle along the Alcantara River, passing through lemon and olive groves and quaint villages. We'll stop for lunch at the beach resort of Naxos before heading to Taormina. Here, we'll tour the ancient city, including its world-famous theatre, and enjoy breathtaking views of Mount Etna and the sea. We'll return to the hotel by bus in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight at the Grand Hotel Villa Itria (or similar).

Today, we'll visit the impressive Pantálica necropolis, a testament to the ancient Sicilian civilization. After a scenic bus ride through the Monti Iblei, we'll enjoy a local lunch before exploring the necropolis. We'll hike through the deep gorge, admiring the stunning landscape and the crystal-clear waters of the Anapo River. Afterward, we'll transfer to our seaside hotel, the Grand Hotel Minareto (or similar), located in Syracuse Bay.

Today, we'll delve into the rich history of Syracuse, once home to the famous mathematician Archimedes. We'll visit the city's archaeological area, featuring a Greek theatre and the 'Latomie' quarries. After lunch, we'll cycle to the source of the river Kyane, known for its wild papyrus bushes. In the late afternoon, we'll explore the old town of Syracuse, where you'll have the evening free to enjoy dinner at your leisure. Overnight at the Grand Hotel Minareto (or similar).

We'll start the day with a bus ride to Palazzolo Acréide, where we'll visit the remains of a Greek city. From there, we'll cycle to Noto Antica, an ancient town abandoned after a devastating earthquake. We'll then continue to Noto, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its Baroque architecture. After a city tour, we'll return to the hotel. In the evening, we'll enjoy our final dinner in a traditional fish restaurant in Syracuse. Overnight at the Grand Hotel Minareto (or similar).
