The Royal Trail Gran Paradiso Italy

Kickstart your adventure with a challenging walk from Aosta to Cogne, located at the base of the Gran Paradiso. Arrive in the picturesque town of Cogne, a former royal hunting stop, now boasting luxurious hotels and exquisite cuisine.

Venture south from Cogne for a day walk to Alps Money. Enjoy the stunning views of the Gran Paradiso massif and reach Alps Money by lunch. Spend the afternoon exploring abandoned shepherd's huts before returning to Cogne for a well-deserved meal.

Embark on a journey down the Valnontey, heading west along the famous Alte Via 2. Enjoy the breathtaking views of the mountain area and stop at a local cheese maker. Arrive at Refugio Sella by lunch, a typical mountain refuge used by climbers and trekkers.

Continue your journey along the Alte Via 2, crossing over Col Loson, the highest non-glaciated pass in the park. Descend into the beautiful Valsavarenche, finishing your trail at the charming hamlet of Eaux Rousses, known for its red-stained rock.

From Eaux Rousses, ascend towards Pont and then up towards Rifugio Federico Chabod, a base for climbers. Spend the night here and if weather permits, take a walk closer to the glaciers that hang above the Rifugio.

After breakfast, traverse across the mountain towards Rifugio Vittorio Emanuele for lunch. Enjoy the stunning mountain views before descending into the valley to overnight in Pont. Explore the valley with short walks offering great views of the Gran Paradiso.

Head out of Valsavarenche via a beautiful trail towards Gran Collet. Enjoy lunch at Rifugio Savoia, the original hunting house of King Vittorio Emanuele. After lunch, trek over Col Nivollet and get transferred down to Ceresole Reale.
