Small-Group Northern Lights Tour from Alta, Norway

Good morning, I would love to congratulate for the excellent service that Steven gave to us, it was a great person, very friendly, good driver, and it was a nice and unforgettable night. Me and my sister really loved the tour. Steven, we would really like to thank u so much for the tour. I really recommend for everyone to do.

We had a really fun and personal experience going on the tour with Steve. Even though the weather was challenging, he had a good plan and we were able to find the lights and learn about the area!

It was very informative about Norway's history. Very enjoyable. Unfortunately not blessed with the Northern Lights,, but that didn't lessen the quality of this experience. The pastries were very delicious

Steven was our host for the evening and was very knowledgeable and entertaining!He does his job very well and knows a thing or two about the Northern Lights. He had some great spots to bring us to .Even on quite an overcast night with a bright moon he still managed to get a photo of us with the Aurora. (Yes)Very happy. Also he provided us with hot chocolate and snacks.

We had a fantastic night chasing the Northern lights from town to town! Our guide, Steven, was cheerful and considerate of each person. While we put on bibs and jackets to stay warm, he gave us the plan based on the cloud cover forecast and KP index for the area. As we headed along the coast to the first spot, he saw the lights starting to appear. During each stop, Steven offered to take pictures with his camera with the lights in the background. As the lights began to wane, he suggested continuing the chase. Along the way, he shared stories about the churches, towns, landslide area, and tunnels (and alpacas and local farmers!) as we passed by. We were lucky throughout the night, stopping 4 or 5 places (iPhone photos from stops) are attached), with hot chocolate and wonderful pastries from a local bakery on one stop. Having someone genuinely as excited as we were to chase the lights really made the night fun.

Seeing the Northern Lights was the purpose of coming to Alta (delayed our honeymoon to get a moonless night!) and Alta Adventure made the trip perfect for the reasons stated.

Other info:

--I spent hours reading reviews about the many tour companies in Alta. But I rarely write a review. Alta Adventure delivered on my expectations and was exactly what I had in mind.

--The van holds 7 max so the group will be small and you will be able to hear everything the guide is saying.

--From our experience, they care about each customer. Steven always asked what the group wanted to do next before moving on.

--The owner, Stig, was born and lives in the area. He enjoys sharing the history of Alta and Finnmark, his love of nature and the unique adventures this area offers. Steven is similar, although he is from farther North and admits to liking downhill better than cross country skiing

--we met Stig when we went snowmobiling with him earlier in the day (reviewed separately). Great trip. We booked it to have some fun memories in case the Northern Lights were a no show.

--Stig and his wife guide tours as well as do the admin stuff. If you have a certain need (pick up, diet, clothing) email them ahead of time so they have a chance to address them. I was communicating with a six hour time difference and Diamela provided timely responses.

Finally, no one can make the Northern lights appear if conditions are bad. But if it is possible to see them, I believe going with Alta Adventure will give you the best chance.

Steven was the best guide we could have ever asked for. We weren’t sure we were going to see the northern lights, but he was so knowledgeable about the subject, he decided to go inland instead of to the coast. We were able to see them, and take amazing pictures. We stopped by first in his office for gear (trust me, it’s needed). And then we head to chase for the lights. To make everything better, we left one of our gloves inside his car, and he was kind enough to come to the airport and drop it off.

Definitely recommend this tour!

My family went on a Northern Lights tour with Alta Adventures in mid-December--a truly wonderful experience! From the start, the team was extremely responsive and accommodating when our group reached out for an amended tour. The warmth and enthusiasm of our guide Steven Toogood also cannot be overstated! Steven made our tour a memorable and enjoyable adventure with facts about the aurora, stories from the surrounding areas, hot drinks, and plenty of opportunities for photos. His dedication to finding the lights and making our chase special was so appreciated. A huge thank you to Steven and the team!

We found this trip outstanding, our guide Steven Toogood making it a highlight of our holiday. Quality warm clothing and boots were included in the price and at a temperature of -21 very welcome and necessary. Steven was very knowledgeable about the area, friendly and attentive, making sure we each felt involved and guided/helped us throughout to get the best photos. We went to 4 areas of outstanding beauty in our hunt for the lights and even though a full moon hindered what would of otherwise been a perfect night sky; we achieved some gorgeous photos and had a really “bucket list” evening.

Our guides were absolutely amazing! They were so passionate about the Northern Lights and helping us find them. They took us to a lake and the views were just out of this world. My coworkers and friends were so jealous of the pictures we had taken! Most of all our guides were friendly people to begin with, so even if we didn't see the lights, the nightly adventure would have still be splendid. Highly recommend!

A fantastic experience from start to finish! We were met by Stig next to the cruise terminal who took us back to the base to wrap up in warm clothing. Dia and Max met us there and were our guides for the evening. Dia was incredibly knowledgeable about the local area and explained lots of different sites as we drove past. We were very fortunate to spot the Northern lights early in our trip and they took us to a secluded spot to get some great photos. Being a small group we had the opportunity to visit a couple more locations that a coach wouldn’t have been able to see. It was an amazing experience and Max and Dia couldn’t have been more helpful with spotting the lights and helping with photos. We also enjoyed a hot chocolate around a campfire with some delicious pastries which just added to the experience. This was far better value than excursions booked through the cruise and a far more personal experience, we’d highly recommend!
