History of Cantacuzino Castle
Cantacuzino Castle, a true architectural jewel, is nestled in the heart of Bușteni, Romania. Built in the Neo-Romanian style, the castle was commissioned by Prince Gheorghe Grigore Cantacuzino, also known as 'Nababul', in 1911.
He was one of the wealthiest men in the country, and the castle stands as a testament to his affluence. Designed by the famed architect Gregory Cerchez, the castle is surrounded by a park featuring Swiss-style chalets, a grotto, and a church.
Upon Prince Cantacuzino's death in 1920, the castle passed to his son Mihail George Cantacuzino, and then to his grandsons. During the communist era, the castle was nationalized and turned into a sanatorium. It wasn't until 2004 that the castle was returned to the Cantacuzino family.
In 2010, the castle was opened to the public as a museum, showcasing not only the rich history of the Cantacuzino family but also various collections of art and historical artifacts. Today, Cantacuzino Castle is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Romania, offering a fantastic journey into the country's past.
