Journey through Romania

Welcome to Romania! Upon your arrival at Bucharest Airport, you will be transferred to the mountainous town of Sinaia, nestled in the heart of the Carpathians. Here, you will check into your 3* or 4* hotel or guesthouse, where you can rest and prepare for the exciting journey ahead.

Today's journey takes you westwards to the iconic Hunedoara Castle, built by the Hunyadi Family. Continue to Alba Carolina, home to the country's best-preserved fortress. From there, you'll travel to the picturesque village of Rimetea, where you can optionally visit the local ethnographic museum. The day ends in either Rimetea or Turda, where you'll check into your guesthouse or 3* hotel.

Begin your day by exploring the impressive Turda Salt Mine, followed by a visit to the Bears’ Cave with its stunning stalactites and stalagmites. After a scenic drive through the Apuseni Mountains, you'll end the day in Oradea, where you'll enjoy a walking tour of the beautifully restored old town. Overnight stay will be in a 3* hotel or guesthouse in Oradea.

Today, you'll travel across the Western Plains, visiting the elegant Karolyi Mansion in Carei and exploring the central square in Satu Mare. Continue into the highlands to the countryside of Maramures, known for its fine carved wood architecture. Here, you'll visit the unique Merry Cemetery before settling in for the night in Sighetu Marmatiei or a local guesthouse.

Begin your day with visits to the iconic wooden churches in the scenic villages of Surdesti, Desesti, Poienile Izei, and Ieud. In the afternoon, explore the extensive Barsana Monastery, a beautiful example of local architecture. End your day in Sighetu Marmatiei, where you can optionally visit the Memorial of Communist Victims or Elie Wiesel’s house. Overnight stay will be in a local guesthouse or 3* hotel.

Today, you'll leave Maramures and head to the multiethnic region of Bukovina. Your first stop will be in Ciocanesti, known for its 'pui' houses decorated with patterns inspired by local embroideries. Depending on your preference, you can either spend the day at leisure in the mountain resort of Vatra Dornei or hike to the foot of the impressive Lady’s Cliffs in the Rarau Mountains. Overnight stay will be in a 3* or 4* villa or hotel in Vatra Dornei or a comfortable 3* mountain lodge in the Rarau Mountains.

Today, you'll visit the 'Bible in frescoes' monasteries of Moldovita, Sucevita, Humor, and Voronet, each a masterpiece of religious art. You'll also explore Lucia Condrea’s painted egg collection, a delicate craft unique to the region. The day continues with a visit to the black pottery workshop in Marginea, where you can witness this age-old tradition. Overnight stay will be in a 3* or 4* villa or hotel in Vatra Dornei or a comfortable 3* mountain lodge in the Rarau Mountains.

Leave Bukovina behind and head south to Targu Mures, a relaxed town known for its impressive Culture Palace and beautiful central square. On the way, take a short walk in Bistrita to admire the Sugalete, the old merchant houses. Continue to Sighisoara, one of Europe's most fascinating fortresses, where you'll explore the Church on the Hill, the Covered Stairway, and the beautiful Clock Tower. Overnight stay will be in a 3* or 4* hotel or guesthouse in Sighisoara.

Today, you'll travel from Sighisoara to Bucharest, taking the second highest road in Romania, the Transfagarasan. Depending on the weather, you can optionally visit the ruins of a former Cistercian monastery in Carta. After a break in Curtea de Arges, where you'll visit the iconic monastery, you'll continue to Bucharest, the country's bustling capital. Overnight stay will be in a 3* or 4* hotel in Bucharest.

Depending on your flight schedule, you can spend more time exploring Bucharest or visit the Village Museum, located in the city's largest park, Herastrau. When it's time to leave, you'll be transferred to the airport for your onward journey. This marks the end of your unforgettable journey through Romania.
