Self Guided Bike Tour in Transylvania - 10 Days

Welcome to Sibiu, the European Cultural Capital of 2017. Depending on your arrival time, you can explore the city's vibrant streets, indulge in some shopping, or simply enjoy a coffee. Later, we'll transfer to Rasinari, a charming shepherds' village nestled at the base of the Cindrel Mountains. Here, you'll settle into a cozy family guesthouse, your home for the next three nights.

Today, we embark on a cycling adventure through the dense deciduous forest of Rasinari. We'll then explore the main attractions of Sibiu on a guided tour. Our journey continues past the ASTRA Open-Air Museum, the largest of its kind in South-East Europe, showcasing diverse dwellings from all regions of Romania. As the day winds down, we'll return to Rasinari.

After breakfast, we'll visit the Saxon villages of Cisnadie and Cisnadioara, known for their rich orchards. We'll then journey through Poplaca to Sibiel, famous for its Hinterglasikonen Museum, and Gura Raului. As the day ends, we'll return to Rasinari.

Today, we leave Sibiu behind and travel by train to Dumbraveni. We'll then cycle to the nearby village of Biertan, home to one of the best-preserved fortified churches, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We'll stay in a guesthouse within the church walls, visit the impressive building, and explore the village and its surroundings on foot.

From Biertan, we'll cycle to the neighboring village of Richis, known for its viticulture heritage. We'll then continue to Meschen to visit the fortified church with the spectacle tower. Our journey takes us to Medias, a city of the Transylvanian Saxons, before returning to Biertan.

Today's stage takes us from Biertan to Copsa Mare and Dumbraveni, passing beautiful churches and forest cabins. Dumbraveni, one of the two centers of Armenian culture in Transylvania, offers a chance for a refreshing bath on hot days. We'll then cycle back to Biertan, passing through Atel, with a lunch break at a cabin in the woods.

We'll transfer to Sighisoara, arguably the most beautiful city of Transylvania. A city tour will reveal landmarks like the Clock Tower and the Church on the Hill. In the afternoon, we'll take a train to Brasov for a city tour through the old town, showcasing renaissance and baroque buildings. We'll then transfer to the nearby village of Bran for the next two nights.

We'll start the day by visiting the famous Castle Dracula and its museum. We'll then cycle to Rasnov and hike to the beautiful castle. For those seeking a challenge, there's an opportunity to cycle uphill to Poiana Brasov, one of Romania's main ski resorts. We'll pick you up from Poiana Brasov and drive back to Sibiu for the last night of the trip.

Today, we'll travel along the Carpathians to Zarnesti, known for its bear observation platforms. We'll then continue to Poiana Marului and Sercaia. At 3:00 p.m., we'll meet our colleague at the fortified church in Sercaia for a bus transfer back to Sibiu. Enjoy a free afternoon in Sibiu before your overnight stay.

Depending on your flight schedule, you'll have some time for last-minute shopping in Sibiu before we transfer you to the airport. As our memorable journey comes to an end, we hope you leave with a suitcase full of memories and experiences.
