Day 1 – Day 1: Arrival in Alnwick

Welcome to the charming town of Alnwick, your gateway to the wonders of Northumberland. Check into your hotel (available from 3pm) and take some time to settle in. If you're arriving by train, Alnmouth Station is just a short taxi ride away. Later in the evening, join your tour leader and fellow guests for an introductory briefing at 6pm. You'll also have the option to enjoy a group meal (not included) to get to know your travel companions better. Don't miss the chance to visit the historic Alnwick Castle and Gardens, once home to the powerful Earls of Northumberland.
Day 2 – Day 2: Holy Island and Bamburgh Castle
Day 2: Holy Island and Bamburgh Castle
After breakfast, we'll drive to the mainland overlooking Holy Island. Here, we'll follow the Pilgrim's Path and walk to the island, tracing the route of St Aiden who founded the Priory in 635AD. Later in the afternoon, we'll drive back to Alnwick, stopping at the imposing Bamburgh Castle along the way. Please note that the day's activities may be adjusted according to the tides.
Day 3 – Day 3: Howick, Craster, and Dunstanburgh Castle

Today, we'll explore the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Starting from the village of Howick, we'll walk along the rocky coastline to Craster, famous for its smoked Kippers. We'll then visit the ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle before returning to Howick. If time permits, we recommend an additional walk around Alnwick to visit Barter Books, housed in a grand Victorian former rail station.
Day 4 – Day 4: Hadrian's Wall and Vindolanda

Today, we'll journey inland to one of the best-preserved sections of Hadrian's Wall. Our circular route will take us along the wall, offering breathtaking views and a glimpse into the region's Roman past. We'll also have the option to visit the ruins of the Roman fort of Vindolanda, where ongoing archaeological excavations continue to reveal fascinating insights into the region's history.
Day 5 – Day 5: Simonside Hills and Cragside House

Our adventure today takes us to the Simonside Hills in Northumberland National Park. After a short but steep hike to the summit, we'll be rewarded with stunning 360-degree views. In the afternoon, we'll visit Cragside House and Gardens, a remarkable Victorian house that was the first in the world to be powered by hydroelectricity. If you're up for more walking, there are several self-guided routes around Cragside woods that you can explore.

Our journey comes to an end after breakfast at our hotel. If you have some time before your departure, we recommend a walk around Hulne Park, a former hunting park for the Duke of Northumberland, to Brizlee Tower and the ruins of Hulne Abbey.
