Northern Lights Hunting Photography in Rovaniemi Finland

Fortunately, Antti was our tour guide. His passion for what he does is remarkable, and we learned a lot about the northern lights phenomenon thanks to him. Throughout the entire journey, we truly experienced a great adventure by his side. He drove for many hours and did everything possible to make sure we could live the experience. Despite all the environmental challenges that arose, we managed to see the auroras thanks to his dedication.

Jona was the perfekt Guide for this tour.

We had to wait for 4 hours to see the lights, some of ghe group already gave up and went home. But then he saw the lights will come in 30 mins and he drive us there.

We hab a perfekt an privat spot for pictures und to see the lights „dancing“.

Petri was a very good guide, we drove to the border of Sweden to find the best possible place. then we stopped at a lake, had a nice fire pit, hot drinks and cookies. The clouds disappeared and we could see the aurora.

Joona was our guide for the Northern Lights Hunt in Rovaniemi, seeing the lights were very important for us, Joona was attentive with the sighting of the lights, and offered to change the date so it was more feasible for sighting. During the tour, he was very knowledgable in the subject, shared with us the way to check for the lights, the relevant graphs and data. He was also very patient with helping us take photos with professional camera, the timelaspe was especially amazing!

We spent 2 days with our guide Andi hunting the Northern lights, private reindeer experience and a sauna and hot tub with a hut dinner experience. All activities were fantastic! Our first day at a reindeer farm was -34C degrees outside -so really cold. If the temp was milder we would have also done ice fishing but we chose to get near a fire.

The reindeer farmer was also delightful and we enjoyed some hot beverages and reindeer soup in a typical hut. Sauna and hot tub dinner experience also top notch. Beautifully situated on a frozen lake view property- a very authentic day followed by roasted salmon dinner made over fire in lake hut with chef. Great conversation and we learned a lot about the culture. Onto Nortgern lights hunting which took us further north to Sweden, Andi was able to locate a very nice show of lights tracking his climate and geographical apps . We got great photos and he captured this show on his professional camera for a better keepsake! Highly recommend this company and this experience. Fabulous!!!

We had the pleasure with my family (5 adults and 1 children) of enjoying three unforgettable activities with Johka, each led by a fantastic guide.

1) Reindeer Activity with Niko

We visited an authentic reindeer farm run by a real herder, far from the usual commercial spots. The experience included a reindeer sled ride, warming up in a traditional tipi around a campfire with hot drinks and snacks, and a snowmobile ride to visit and feed over 200 reindeer. Even at night, the experience was magical — I can only imagine how stunning it must be during the day! Niko was an incredible guide: kind, friendly, sociable, and always smiling. He went above and beyond to make the visit cozy and enjoyable.

2) Northern Lights Hunt with Petri

We couldn’t have asked for a better way to celebrate New Year’s Eve than this extraordinary northern lights hunt! Petri was an amazing guide who drove us all the way to the Swedish border to find the best, clearest spots for viewing. Thanks to him, we saw truly exceptional northern lights that felt like a once-in-a-lifetime experience. His kindness, enthusiasm, and positive attitude made the night even more unforgettable. Petri’s passion for his work and his dedication to making sure we had the best possible experience were evident in every moment. It was the perfect way to welcome the new year, and we’ll treasure this memory forever!

3) Husky Sledding with Risto

The husky sledding experience was incredible! Although we didn’t interact much with the guide during the activity (because of the activity in itself, we are doing it in our own) he was very attentive, professional and kind! The kennel where the dogs are kept is well-maintained, and you can see how happy and excited the huskies are to pull the sled. It’s clear they genuinely enjoy it and are well taken care of, which made the experience even better.

Overall Review of Johka Agency: we highly recommend Johka! Even though we booked last minute, they managed to accommodate our schedule perfectly, and we’re so grateful for that. It’s evident that their guides are passionate about what they do, and it shows in every activity. This is exactly what we were looking for — authentic, memorable experiences that go beyond commercial tourism. Thank you, Johka, for making our Lapland trip so special!

Niko , our guide, was very helpful and knowledgeable. We got very lucky with the northern lights and he took some great pictures too. Would highly recommend this in Rovaniemi.

Our family of 3 did the Aurora hunting with Johka. My husband can walk a little but uses a wheelchair. He was very grateful to be able to be in the van and experience the hunt. Risto our guide was very nice and also helpful, even when we saw him the next day at the Santa village, he came over to say hi and offer some advice. There were 6 altogether in the comfortable van. Did we see the lights? I’d say we saw glimpses. But the experience of driving on back roads through winter forests and seeing little Finnish houses lit up for Christmas was worth it. We would drive awhile and stop and see what the lights were doing. Getting out under the stars, eating cookies, chatting, walking on the snow, all part of the adventure. We ended up driving to Sweden. Risto offered to keep driving to the best spot we were likely to see the lights but it was already very late and with early morning activities, the group decided to go back to Rovaniemi. Risto since contacted us and sent some great photos of our son under the starry sky. Would definitely recommend.

We spent 2 days with Joona with our 10 year old daughter; from a private reindeer farm with a visit from Santa, to hiking the frozen waterfalls, and then an epic night watching the Northern Lights on the edge of a lake complete with a fire pit and smores. We have been fortunate to travel extensively and Joona was one of the best guides anywhere. His level of excitement for his clients, extensive knowledge to share, and passion is next level. Also to mention, he is an excellent photography and happy to take and share photos. Without hesitation, highly recommend.
