South Tyrolean Wine & Alpine Pasture Trail

Begin your journey in the charming spa town of Meran, a favorite of Empress Sissi. Stroll through its arbour alleys and unwind along the promenade of the raging Passer River.

Follow the Marlinger Waalweg, South Tyrol's longest Waal, into the apple metropolis of Lana. Enjoy marvelous views of Meran and the Etsch valley until Bozen. Ascend through deciduous forests to Tisens, famous for its sweet chestnuts. The day ends in Nals, where you'll explore the three castles of Stachelburg, Schwanburg, and Payrsberg.

Walk past palaces and castles along the high-altitude path to the well-known wine-growing village of Eppan. Enjoy the South Tyrolean wine route before taking a short bus ride to the provincial capital Bozen. Immerse yourself in the Italian flair in the arbour alleys and enjoy a cappuccino on Waltherplatz square.

Take the cable car to Jenesien and experience South Tyrol's most stunning facets. Enjoy a unique panoramic view from Lake Kalterer See over the castles and palaces along the wine route to the jagged rock faces of the Dolomites. Walk across vast meadows and through clear forests until you reach the village of Mölten on the high plateau of the Tschöggelberg mountain.

Spend the day in the picturesque village of Mölten, situated above 1100 m. Enjoy a relaxing walk through meadows covered in flowers, fragrant larch forests, and alpine pastures right up to the 'Steinerne Mandln'. Breathtaking distant views onto the Etsch valley and numerous impressive mountain peaks accompany you on this circular walk.

The final leg of the tour takes you across a glorious Alpine pasture scenery to the Leadner Alp, where you can taste their home-made dumpling specialties. Continue along the panoramic high-altitude path to Trauttmansdorff Palace. Visit the magnificent parks and landscaped gardens before descending into the center of Meran.
